Client’s situation and request
As one of the world’s largest manufacturers and suppliers of solutions and components in refrigeration, A/C and heating, the Danish multinational company Danfoss A/S administer a huge chain of suppliers around the world. Together with The Danish Institute of Human Rights and Business, Danfoss wanted to collect information and knowledge about the situation and challenges concerning human rights in countries where operations were located. The aim was to map and mitigate risks and facilitate work with own factories and suppliers.
Measures from Respect
At the Danish Institute of Human Rights, one of Respect’s consultants developed a model for a summarized Country Risk Assessment, specifying the state of human rights in countries of production. The reports are built upon key conventions and standards, such as the UN Global Compact, the ILO core conventions on workers’ rights, and the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. The aim was easy accessible reports, well suited for any part of the organisation; from the CSR-experts to General Managers, Procurement and Human Resources.
Result
According to Danfoss, the reports have proven useful and made work with identification and mitigation of risk a lot easier. The reports have successfully been used by many parts of the organisation, and have been an important tool in Danfoss’ work with corporate citizenship. Since 2004, Respect has done about
50 risk assessments on 25 countries on Danfoss’s account.
